A lifelong resident of Van Wert, Maddux McCray is a student, substitute teacher, historical guide, and grassroots organizer with nearly a decade of experience working on issues and campaigns across Ohio and beyond.

His commitment to public service is rooted in his hometown, his working-class family, and a belief that government should listen to the people it serves and focus on practical solutions that make a difference in their daily lives.

Born and raised in Van Wert County, Maddux McCray graduated from Van Wert High School and remains deeply connected to the people and communities of Northwest Ohio. His family’s roots extend into and around Paulding County, giving him a personal connection to the broader region. In May 2024, Maddux married his wife, Aubrey. Together, they are among the many young Ohioans working to build a future in the state while facing the rising costs of housing, healthcare, groceries, and everyday life.

Maddux was raised in a multigenerational working-class family with deep roots in farming, manufacturing, and organized labor. His family has farmed for generations, while members of his family have worked in factories, manufacturing, and other skilled trades and belonged to organized labor. Those experiences gave Maddux an appreciation for the people who keep Northwest Ohio moving every day—from factory and logistics workers to healthcare professionals, teachers, first responders, small business owners, and working families. He understands the importance of good-paying jobs, strong schools, reliable infrastructure, and communities where working people can build a future.

Maddux is currently completing his Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Political Science through Marshall University. He works as a substitute teacher and historical tour guide and has spent nearly a decade as a grassroots organizer, working on local, state, and federal issues and candidate campaigns across Ohio and other states. These experiences have allowed him to work alongside people from many different backgrounds and reinforced his belief that effective representation starts with listening to the people who live and work in our communities.

Maddux’s commitment to service extends beyond politics. Through his work as a substitute teacher, historical tour guide, and grassroots organizer, he has spent years working directly with people and communities across Ohio. He believes public service is about showing up, listening, and doing the work—whether that means supporting students in the classroom, preserving and sharing our history, helping organize around issues that matter to local communities, or making sure constituents have a voice in their government. For Maddux, serving others is not simply a campaign promise; it is a responsibility to the communities that have shaped him.

Maddux also believes service means investing in the people and institutions that hold our communities together. Teachers, healthcare workers, first responders, farmers, factory and logistics workers, small business owners, and countless others contribute every day to the strength of Northwest Ohio. His approach to public service is grounded in respect for that work and a commitment to making sure the people who keep our communities running have a representative who will listen, show up, and advocate for their needs.
